MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Dextromethorphan suppresses cough by central action on the cough center in the medulla. Bromhexine hydrochloride is a mucolytic agent which liquefies thick, tenacious sputum. The viscosity of sputum is reduced by dissolving mucopolysaccharide fibers. It also improves mucociliary clearance of secretions. Chlorpheniramine Maleate acts by neuropharmacological manipulation of histaminic and muscarinic receptors in the medulla. Guaiphenesin helps to thin and loosen mucus in the lungs, making it easier to cough up the mucus.
