TERBOFIN-OC OINTMENT

DESCRIPTION:
Terbinafine is an allylamine that has a broad spectrum of antifungal activity. At low concentrations Terbinafine is fungicidal against dermatophytes, moulds and certain dimorphic fungi. Mometasone furoate has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties.

MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Terbinafine interferes specifically with fungal sterol biosynthesis at an early step. This leads to a deficiency in ergosterol and to an intracellular accumulation of squalene, resulting in fungal cell death. Terbinafine acts by inhibiting squalene epoxidase in the fungal cell membrane. However, Mometasone furoate is thought to act by the induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, collectively called lipocortins. It is postulated that these proteins control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of their common precursor arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid is released from membrane phospholipids by phospholipase A2.

INDICATIONS:
Indicated for the relief of the inflammatory, fungal and pruritic manifestations of responsive dermatoses.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
The affected area should be cleaned and dried thoroughly before the application of Cream. The cream should be applied to the affected skin and surrounding area in a thin layer and rubbed in lightly. In the case of intertriginous infections (interdigital, intergluteal, inguinal) the application may be covered with a gauze strip, especially at night.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients contained in the cream.

SIDE EFFECTS:
Local symptoms such as pruritis, skin exfoliation, application site pain, application site irritation, pigmentation disorder, skin burning sensation, erythema and scab may occur at the site of application.

PRECAUTIONS:
Do not allow the cream to enter the eyes and mouth. Discontinue the use if skin irritation occurs. Do not apply to broken skin.

DOSAGE:
Only one application is advised at bedtime. After 6-8 weeks of use, apply cream sparingly to avoid corticosteroid related side effects.

STORAGE:
Store in a cool & dry place. Do not freeze. Protect from direct sunlight. Replace cap tightly after use.
