MECHANISM OF ACTION:
Azithromycin prevents bacteria from growing by interfering with their protein synthesis. It binds to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, and thus inhibits the translation of mRNA. Nucleic acid synthesis is not affected.
INDICATIONS:
Azithromycin is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases.
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
Hypersensitivity to azithromycin, to other macrolide antibiotics, or to any of the excipients.
SIDE EFFECTS:
Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting.
DOSAGE:
As directed by the physician.
